Our Eyes See the Sun
“History is not a fixed narrative; it is a tapestry of multiple perspectives and voices.”
In a bold effort to preserve and share diverse stories, The Akron Black Artist Guild (ABAG) will produce a documentary profiling BIPOC artists as they create work embodying their story, culture, and triumph. Through interviews and candid footage, this documentary will investigate the richness and struggles of artists of color and highlight common threads that exist within all artists in the northeast region.
This film will foster community ownership, cohesion, and a sense of pride from all community members. These curated conversations introduce new topics into public dialogue and contribute to an ongoing discussion on inclusivity and equitable development. By engaging Northeast Ohio communities as active participants, we recognize the value of your perspectives and the role you play in shaping our collective future.
“Our Eyes See the Sun” will conclude with selected artists completing their journey by presenting a finished piece at various public exhibitions before a broader audience, including at the Akron Soul Train Gallery (presented by ABAG).
The film will make its grand premiere at NightLight Cinema, a fitting venue for this celebration of art and diversity. This event is not just a screening, but a celebration of the unique stories and perspectives that the BIPOC artists bring to our community. Following the screening, there will be community talk-back sessions. These extended programming sessions will provide a platform for dialogue between the artists and community members, allowing them to delve deeper into the topics highlighted within the documentary.
