A repertoire of poetry saturated the night at the ‘Poetry is Life’ hosted by Jason Blakely, ‘Arts Inclusion Incubator’ at the Wild Oscar’s Civic Theater.  It was an awesome gathering of poets sharing their experiences through their distinctive style and rhythm.  Through their spoken word, we heard narratives that conveyed thoughts on love, family, and community. What it does or doesn’t look like and feel.

Poet Robert Greer started the evening smoothly with the sense of sureness that Black is Beautiful.  Xposyur made us quiver at the reality of life and roared proudly at our cultural experiences.  We’ve listened to a soft-spoken word from Ceyanna Dent, grounding us in love and joy.  Lastly, EbaNee Bond, a part of this collection of poets, broke the mold by intertwining storytelling and poetry.

This was a great and enjoyable event for me.  The narratives were so significant that I thought about how common our life experiences are and how they’re expressed uniquely through the many facets of the literary arts.  Stories that weave and define us emotionally, spiritually, and culturally. ◼
