MISSION + OVERVIEW
MISSION
The Akron Black Artist Guild (ABAG) is a 501(c)(3) network of Black artists across disciplines dedicated to building a thriving, connected creative community by linking artists to meaningful opportunities, resources, and education that support artistic, professional, and economic growth.
WHO WE ARE
We are the Akron Black Artist Guild, a dynamic community of talented and passionate Black artists who have come together with a singular mission: to strengthen the creative community in Northeast Ohio. We work to expand fair access to funding, professional growth, and public opportunities. Our art programs bring people together, connect generations, and use art to promote learning, economic opportunity, civic involvement, and well-being.
VISION
The Akron Black Artist Guild serves as a trusted resource for the communities where we live and work, extending beyond the arts into the various aspects of our artists’ everyday lives. Now in its fifth year, the Akron Black Artist Guild brings people together, builds leadership, and encourages civic engagement in Northeast Ohio’s arts and culture. We provide a safe, welcoming space for artists and work to overcome barriers caused by racial and economic inequality. Through advocacy and community organizing, we create opportunities for dialogue, connection, and shared responsibility. ABAG builds bridges across communities and experiences, unites people through art, and helps strengthen the region.
